The FISE - WFTU International Conference on Education titled “The subject of the conference is “The role of teachers today, today’s school, public education, democracy in education” kicked off yesterday with great success at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium. The FISE Conference was presided by the leadership of this WFTU TUI, General Secretary Orlando Perez (from Venezuela) and President Hassan Ismail (Lebanon), elected by the FISE Congress that was held in Caracas Venezuela in September 2012.

Government braces for nationwide labor protests


The government has called on workers to remain peaceful during an upcoming five-day national strike, which is expected to start on Monday.

Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto urged workers not to vandalize public property or disturb public order.

Bart strikers suspend picket after train accident kills two workers

One of the main unions on strike against the San Francisco commuter rail system will suspend picketing for a day after a train struck and killed two workers checking a section of track on Saturday.

 

The strike against the Bay Area Rapid Transit agency, which carries about 400,000 riders a day, has snarled traffic across the region. It began on Friday after contract talks broke down over pay and workplace rules.
